North India 2023, The Beatles Aashram

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

Reflections and heartfelt shares from my time spent reconnecting to a place that was once my home.

Visiting Chaurasi Kutiya Aashram aka The Beatles Aashram...

Situated in the forest of Rajaji National Park, This Aashram is where the Beatles came to learn Vedic Meditation (aka transcendental meditation) with Maharishi Yogi.

Earlier this year, my partner and I learnt Vedic Meditation and since then, we’ve experienced some potent inner shifts, growth, resilience and stability.

I enjoyed roaming through the Aashram, connecting to a lineage I’m grateful to be a part of and learning from.

I imagined the many souls who journeyed here with curious hearts to learn from Maharishi about meditation, consciousness and spirituality.

I thought of those who connected to the stream of creative consciousness whilst here, amongst the natural landscape of this lush forest at the foothills of the Himalayas. It’s said that The Beatles wrote 48 of their songs whilst here.

The walls of these buildings covered with murals and, what appears to be, moments of insights and reflections transcribed into writings and drawings from those who felt called to leave a mark here.

I touched a few moments of stillness whilst meditating in the caves. The stones that form the walls of the caves were sourced from the banks of the sacred Ganga River.

“Chaurasi Kutiya” means 84 cottages for prayer and meditation.

Jai Guru Dev 🤎

Today we stand in footsteps millennia old. May we acknowledge the traditional owners whose cultures and customs have nurtured, and continue to nurture, this land, since men and women awoke from the great dream. We honour the presence of these ancestors who reside in the imagination of this land and whose irrepressible spirituality flows through all creation.

My Yoga Space pays respect to the Dharawal, Gundangurra and Darug Nations on whose land we live and work.
